The pen with USI protocol supported Chrome OS and provides an industry-leading 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity for natural writing and sketching, along with a 150 days battery life based on two hours in active use daily. Lenovo USI Pen is great for extended notetaking and writing, fine art, or graphic design. Lenovo claims that its USI stylus can manage about 150 days on a single battery and gets the same 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. Where HP’s stylus is a whopping $70, Lenovo’s is just $40.

However, that does have its advantages with the most important being cost. Notably, though, this stylus isn’t rechargeable like HP’s, instead using a AAAA battery. Like the HP USI stylus we tried out earlier this year, Lenovo’s Pen can communicate with devices that support USI including the company’s own IdeaPad Duet and other Chromebooks. This week, too, the Pen is finally in stock on Lenovo’s US site for a quick and easy order. This USI stylus first appeared in May, but has only started shipping to customers. Now, Lenovo has released its own USI stylus, the simply named Lenovo USI Pen. I hit the Google Play store and installed the Android version of Squid.The IdeaPad Duet is one of the first Chrome OS tablets that actually matters, and one of its best features is support for the USI stylus standard. I then decided to try one of the arguably best inking solutions to test the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook stylus experience. Again: Usable but basically an average experience right now. What you can’t see is the ink flowing up to a half-inch behind the stylus as I was writing. It’s not terrible, but not ideal as I noted (no pun intended) when testing the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook stylus experience.

More importantly, though, there is noticeable lag when writing on the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook. I couldn’t take advantage of any pressure sensitivity when writing, for example, in Google Cursive. However, it’s not ideal, at least not on the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook.įor one thing, it’s currently too simple of an app compared to existing digital ink solutions. Frankly, I’m surprised that a web-based application even handles digital inking. The first test I did involved using the Google Cursive progressive web app that officially launched with the HP Chromebook x2 11 tablet.
